Jason Langer is an artist and photo educator, whose photographs are often described as meditative and suspenseful. His photographs often explore spiritual, philosophical or religious concerns often expressed through Jungian, Jewish and Buddhist ideas. Monographs include: Berlin (Kerber Verlag, 2022), a mid-career retrospective Twenty Years (Radius Books, 2015), Possession (2013, Nazraeli Press) and Secret City (2006, Nazraeli Press). Langer graduated from the University of Oregon in 1989 and has exhibited with Benrubi Gallery (NYC), CLAMP (NYC), Galerie Esther Wordehoff (Paris), Kopeikin Gallery (Los Angeles), Gilman Contemporary (Idaho), and SFO Museum (San Francisco). Supported by grants from The Ford Family Foundation, The Joy of Giving Something Foundation, The Oregon Arts Commission, and The Wood Institute, Langer’s photographs are held in permanent collections such as Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, Zimmerli Art Museum, and Sir Elton John, Sir Mick Jagger, International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum, and are represented or distributed by CLAMP (NYC), Galerie Esther Woerdehoff (Paris), and Gilman Contemporary (Sun Valley, ID). Langer has 35 years experience exhibiting and publishing in the fine art photographic milieu and 25 years instruction in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies. Langer has been published in the New York Times, Vanity Fair, American Photographer and many other publications and exhibits and publishes regularly. Langer lives in Portland, Oregon.
