ABOUT THE CRITIQUE GROUP
Are you an advanced photographic artist working on a long-term body of work? Are you looking for a supportive community of like-minded photographers to work closely with to hash out ideas to strengthen your practice? Are you seeking guidance from an artist experienced in bookmaking and large-scale exhibitions to share their expert knowledge? This online critique group, led by Stacy Arezou Mehrfar, will provide the structure and the feedback necessary to develop and refine your project(s). In this supportive and engaging conversation, we will focus on the strengths of your work, what might be missing, and how we can include research and critical thinking to expand our current practice.
Applicants for this critique group should be experienced photographers who have an ongoing creative practice and have previously participated in a critique group. Applicants will be asked to submit 10 images and a brief statement about their work and goals for the course.
NOTES
• Participants will share work in each session.
• New group members will have a 20-minute one-to-one with Stacy before their first class.
• Participants are required to attend their monthly sessions consecutively.
• Enrollment renewal must be completed at least thirty days before a participant's final class to secure their spot in the group.
• As this is an ongoing workshop, Stacy may occasionally need to reschedule a session.
• If a participant is unable to attend the makeup class, an additional session will be added to the end of their six-month package.
Stacy Arezou Mehrfar is a first-generation Iranian-American artist living and working in New York City. Mehrfar works with the photographic medium to build psychologically charged immersive presentations, using in-camera interventions, exaggerations of scale and perspective, and animating still imagery into stop-motion videos. Her photographs, videos, and books explore community, specifically the relationships between the individual and the collective, and how landscape shapes our ways of being.
Stacy holds an MFA (Research) in Photomedia from the University of NSW School of Art and Design in Sydney, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a Certificate in Creative Practices from the International Center of Photography (ICP). Stacy is a 2022 Silver List nominee and has received several grants, including the Joseph Robert Foundation Grant, Puffin Foundation Artist Grant, Australian Postgraduate Award, and Australian Artist Grant. Mehrfar's works have been exhibited nationally and Internationally in venues such as KMAC Contemporary Art Museum, Filter Space, TEDxSydney, L'Space Gallery, Ethan Cohen KuBe, ClampArt, ICP, the Australian Centre of Photography, and the State Library of New South Wales.
